Iron Man Challenge : How I signed up for one of the hardest sport events in the world ?
Today I did something that year ago would seem simply crazy – I have signed up for a full Ironman. This is how my Iron Man challenge begins… Not many of my readers are into the endurance sport, so to make your life easier here is all you need to know about an Ironman:
What is an Ironman ?
Mind you that I am not a professional athlete. I started swimming 2 months ago, I haven’t been biking for 16 years and I completed my first marathon this year. All in all, the only proven thing I have, is my dedication. I know that I will do everything it takes to push hard enough and make it happen, as long as, I am in a good health.
Reasonable question that anyone would ask is:
Why ? Why would anyone, who is not prepared, sign up for this crazy sports event ?
For me the answer is probably excitement of unknown and sense of achieving something big in life. Most people live boring lives, they do same boring things from the day they are born to the day they die. This is absolutely fine, if person is ok with it. I am not. I think we are destined for something bigger, more exciting. Our minds and our bodies are capable of so much more, and whenever we let laziness or fear get ahead of us – it is lost opportunity. I believe that each of us can serve as an example to those close to us, and by doing something cool we can motivate others, making world more exciting!
How did I decide to sign up ?
2 years ago I googled “Hardest sport events” and stumbled upon Ironman. At this time it seemed insane that anybody would do it. This year I set myself a goal to complete a marathon. I have completed 3. This put it all in perspective. Now I understand endurance training much better and I know that my body is capable of much more than I can think of. The sure way to prove it is to try something that seems insane – Ironman.
So here I am 7 months away from Ironman Canada.
I will be posting my progress frequently, so please sign up and stay tuned!
